Atlanta Secures $40M Grant to Revitalize Abandoned Neighborhood
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the city of Atlanta a $40 million grant to revitalize the former Bowen Homes neighborhood. The area of Bowen Homes includes the surrounding neighborhoods of Carey Park and a portion of Almond Park, collectively known as the Bowen Choice Neighborhood. The plan aims to create more than 2,000 rental units, some of which will be available for purchase at affordable and fair market rates. The grant is expected to have a transformative impact on the area, combining public and private resources to create new affordable housing, improve neighborhood amenities, and provide new opportunities for current and former residents. The project is eagerly anticipated to have significant economic and social benefits, particularly in Westside Atlanta.
