ABOUT

Where We Work

The Bullard Center at Texas Southern University is national in scope.  However, it targets much of its attention and resources to serve Black communities located in 19 states and the District of Columbia where two-thirds of Black Americans live and where over 82 percent of 104 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are located.

The Center serves as the lead academic institution for the HBCU Consortium Gulf Coast Multi-Threat Information Hubs Initiative. It’s international work is centered around building relationships, partnership, collaborations and solutions in addressing environmental and climate justice challenges affecting African, African descent and the Black Diaspora.

Across the 21 states and territories where HBCUs are located, in 2016 they...

Comprised 9% of four-year institutions

Enrolled 24% of all black undergrads pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Awarded 26% of all black bachelor’s degrees

Awarded 32% OF STEM bachelor’s degrees earned by black students
