What Climate Policies Work Best? A New Study Has Answers

Summary

A recent study published in Science analyzed 1,500 climate policies across 41 countries, revealing that while carbon pricing is effective in reducing emissions, combining multiple policies yields the most significant results. The study identified 63 instances where countries made substantial emissions cuts, totaling between 600 million and 1.8 billion metric tons of CO2. The most effective reductions occurred when carbon pricing was paired with other measures, such as stricter regulations and subsidies for renewable energy. The study highlights the importance of a multi-faceted approach to meet global climate targets, especially as current efforts still fall short of the Paris Agreement goals.
