As Heat Waves Hit U.S., Poll Finds Most Can't Locate Local Cooling Station

Amid a summer of intense heat waves, a new poll reveals that while many Americans can recognize symptoms of heat-related illnesses, the majority are unaware of local cooling station locations. Conducted by the Annenberg Public Policy Center, the survey found that while most respondents could identify symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and red, dry skin, 67% didn’t know where to find a cooling station. The poll also highlighted a growing awareness of climate change’s role in worsening heat waves, with two-thirds of respondents acknowledging the increased risk of heat-related health issues and the greater frequency and intensity of heat waves.
