Job Summary
The GIS/Research Director, Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice is responsible for providing technical expertise and supervision for day-to-day implementation and operation of the GIS within the context of programs, research initiatives, and policy directives. The GIS/Research Director is also responsible for managing research projects involving the collection, analysis, and dissemination of geospatial data.
Essential Duties
- Manage web-based/interactive GIS hardware and software for the Bullard Center including conducting evaluation of needs, licensing, recommendations for system and data architecture.
- Oversee and provide technical guidance regarding activity associated with implementation, operation, and enhancement of the GIS assistance and visualization for Bullard Center-associated research projects.
- Conduct research and development on new GIS related products and procedures.
- Summarize and convey relevant information to external community groups and partners in the HBCU CBO Gulf Coast Equity Consortium, HBCU Climate Change Consortium and National Black Environmental Justice Network.
- Develop and provide training to internal users on geospatial/big data management and other operational issues.
- Coordinate GIS data sharing and storage for external partners of the Bullard Center
- Maintain current knowledge of enterprise GIS technologies and developments in the field through relevant training, literature review and attendance at conferences and symposia.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
