The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) filed a complaint against the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) on behalf of black landowners in Shiloh, Alabama, who were subjected to state-imposed restrictive covenants. The SPLC argues that the covenants are illegal and unconstitutional, and that the landowners' properties are currently in an uninsurable flood zone after being flooded due to drainage problems caused by the expansion of U.S. Highway 84. The SPLC is seeking redress for the landowners against the covenants and the repair of the drainage. Read the full press release from the SPLC for more details.
